“To all who come to this happy place; welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past...and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams and the hard facts that have created America...with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.” - Walt Disney

What's Old is New

Last week 2 "old" things at Disneyland Park reopened to new lives. Continue on to learn more:
************************************

With the closing of the Plaza Pavilion, to begin conversion into the new princess area, a performance venue was needed for the Disney Performing Arts program.
So the old Festival Arena, former home the the Hunchback of Notre Dame - Festival of Fools, was converted into a new performance area.

The area is now called Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree.

This "new" venue provides a huge, elevated stage for the groups to perform on.  In addition, it is a very large seating area for friends and family to come and watch the kids perform.
The seating consists of a few table and some bench seats.
Hopefully Disney will add more seating as this venue becomes used more.

An added bonus to this new location is that it allows for Characters to visit.

During this performance Chip N' Dale were dancing around to the music, attired in cowboy hats and country style vests and bandannas.  This is a cute touch. More please...

And as if that weren't enough there are photo ops with Mickey & Minnie...

...and some of the rarely seen Country Bears.

The lines for both of these photo ops were very short. Maybe 4-5 groups wait for each.
However, once word gets out that Mickey & Minnie are back here (as well as on Main Street, in Toon Town, and other park locations) these lines will get longer and longer. This will also draw people back to this location to hear the performances as well, which is what I'm sure Disney hopes for.

On Main Street USA the refurbishment of the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor completed, along with both the new Penny Arcade and Candy Palace, reopening to large crowds.

The exterior looks great. Freshly painted, new awnings, and beautiful new windows and window displays greet you as you approach.

Above the window awnings are fancy new signs
.

And over the door, and invitation to have a sundae.

The window signs on the right side are themed perfectly, and really add a nice touch.

The window displays on the left side invite you to pull up a chair and enjoy a scoop.

Inside, the newly redesigned Que area moves quickly.

You get ample opportunity to view the choices of refreshment on the menu board.

The beautiful Gibson Girl photo above the menu board.

Decorative chandeliers hang from the ceiling...

and intricate scrolled panels adorn the cashier stations.

This pictures shows the scroll work, but seeing it in person really showcases the wonderful handwork and carving of the woodwork much better.

On the counter are samples of your cone choices, both waffle and jumbo waffle covered in sprinkles.

But look behind the counter, there above the soda dispenser..

Look up and you''ll see another display unit, hung from the ceiling, dripping with crystals.
This looks like a yummy chandelier.  How cool is that?

As we exit we see the hand crafted exit sign. Fancy!

Of course what's a visit to Gibson Girl without having some ice cream.

My choice today was the Chocolate Chip Cookie Hot Fudge Sundae:
2 Scoops of ice cream (you choose the flavor),
2 Chocolate Chip cookies (soft and chewy),
Hot Fudge poured over top and underneath,
Whipped Cream topping,
and a cherry on top.

What a scrumptious way to end the day.
